Why niches are the best (and how they impact everyone)
A wild story of a kid on a far-off planet who eventually becomes an interstellar knight with a laser sword.
That’s what Star Wars was when it premiered.
Of course everyone thought it would flop.
But it didn’t, and it indelibly changed cinema, pop culture, and literature.
This is what you get when you go to the niches.
These are the areas, the venues, the locations that bubble up like oil spouts and delivery inspiration more broadly.
By delivering up great storytelling with original ideas, you get something that impacts others and spawns both imitators and heirs.
Now, the imitators are those that want to cash in on others’ success. They’ll be long forgotten.
The heirs will live on because they have been born with the basic goodness of their predecessors. But the heirs will adapt and change to something unique.
So don’t be afraid of being niche.
It’s these things that give it the edge to cut through and be the next big idea that reverberates throughout the creative world.
You’ve just got to be willing to roll the dice with your original vision.
