Today, since I took some time to disparage modern Christmas music in my last post, I thought today I’d write something constructive. Here are some beautiful examples of classic(al) music for you to celebrate Noel by!

Lo, How A Rose E’er Blooming/A Great And Mighty Wonder

Like other hymns on this list, a couple of different translations and lyrical options exist for this song as they were translated from their original language. In this case, German.

Now Sing We, Now Rejoice/In Dulci Jubilo

This hymn is gorgeous in pretty much any of its various forms. It has been translated in many different sorts and retains its energetic jubilance regardless of form.

There Were Three Ships

This year I came to appreciate these lyrics more as I came to know them better. “And all the bells on earth shall ring!”

Down In Yon Forest

This song was a new discovery for me. I listed first to Burl Ives deliver it (which is also worth your time), but this choir version resonated in a very nice way with the rest of this list. “The bells of paradise, I hear them ring.”
