Gifs will become an art form in a new and surprising way.

The art of the gif.

Art is an expression or application of human creative skill and imagination that has no practical purpose.

Gifs are not considered art because, at large, they lack meaning, do not convey an idea through their visuals, and were designed to move. Aesthetically beautiful moving images, however, are exactly what’s next for the formation of new art forms.

We expect that the true beauty of short-form video will become realized as “Motion pictures” in the most limited sense, will become a new art form unto themselves. The power of gifs is not just for moving cat pictures anymore, they have now entered entirely new territory with infinite potential to transform the way we see the world.

Gifs are powerful for several reasons.

The moving image, or “cinematic” as they call it in the industry, offers a vast landscape of new possibilities and tools with which to create stunning images that can be made even more striking by their short length. With cinema, you have a large amount of time to include a shot, but with gifs you have to utilize that same shot most efficiently and beautifully possible in just a few seconds or milliseconds.
