Dear college students, make use of the resources around you
It may seem like it, but you don’t know everything. Sure, there are friends and classmates around who think they do; most of the time they’re wrong. Take this advice from someone (me) who’s tried his best to learn about many things over the years: You can never stop learning.
The plain fact is that you don’t know it all. You can never stop learning. I’m not trying to be depressing; it’s meant to be encouraging. Sure, you might think that an idea or concept is too straightforward to warrant any further thought, but there’s almost always something more hidden beneath the surface (like in math, for example).
No matter how much you think you know about any one thing, there will always be something else to learn. Maybe it’s finding out that your favorite food is an aphrodisiac in another culture or figuring out that the movie you thought was “so-so” is actually considered a piece of cinematic genius. Or maybe it’s just learning more about what made your hero “tick.”
The point is that you should never think there isn’t anything else out there because it’s impossible to find everything. The more you know about a subject, the more likely it is that something will surprise you. Now, here comes the caveat: You have to be open to new ideas and experiences.
